David A Burns

Drug & Alcohol Counsellor
MA, ICADC, CCCS, CCAC, CSAT(C)

If you are struggling with Addiction or Codependency issues, you've selected the right counsellor; this is the scope of my practice, that's what I do. With a one size does not fit all approach, we will find ways that work for you. Getting your life back is the number one priority and I will work with you until that happens. Practicing since 2002, clients have ranged from teenagers to octogenarian's and have a course of engagement that lasts from one to five years. Call me today and return hope to your life.

I'm comfortable with DSM V assessments, ASAM placement criteria, working with multiple treatment centres and providing my own Intensive Outpatient Programs for clients unable to commit to residential treatment. I have experience working with Regulatory bodies both to achieve compliance, advocate for the client and to ensure an acceptable outcome.

DBT SKILLS GROUP

HAVE YOU BEEN TOLD YOU ARE EMOTIONALLY OVER-SENSITIVE?

Does it take a long time to calm down after being upset?

Our DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) group sessions help you to recognize triggers that create emotional conflict and stress. In a supportive group setting, and guided by experienced professionals, you’ll discover new ways of coping to help you avoid unwanted outcomes in your relationships with family, friends and coworkers.

We’ll help you identify and build on your strengths. We’ll show you new ways of thinking, feeling and communication that will improve your ability to accept and tolerate other points of view and express your feelings effectively. DBT combines western psychological traditions and eastern meditative practices to help you learn to accept and tolerate powerful emotions with skill, and communicate in a non-judgmental way.

Family Support Group

Are you feeling stressed out over someone’s addiction? We believe addiction is a family disease and as family members you need care and support too. Join us for our weekly Family Support Group facilitated by a counselor who will briefly introduce a topic and then open the group for personal sharing. Some topics include: codependency, boundaries, effective communication, processing guilt and shame, helping versus enabling, and loving detachment.
